Drag strip launches live or die on stall speed alignment. Pick a converter diameter that lets the engine hit peak torque right off the transbrake button without bog or tire spin.

Converter size sets the stall window. ATI charts show 13-inch units hold 5 quarts while 10-inch units take only 3 quarts. Smaller diameters raise stall; larger ones drop it for the same engine combo.

Always pre-fill a fresh converter before install. The ATI capacity table lists exact quarts by diameter so the unit reaches its designed stall without aeration or slippage on the first pass.

Match stall to your power curve. A 9-inch converter at 2.5 quarts pairs with high-rpm small blocks; a 12-inch at 4 quarts suits torque-heavy big blocks that need earlier hook-up.

Verify final fluid level after the first heat cycle. Aftermarket pans add volume, so cross-check against the ATI transmission and converter charts to keep stall consistent across rounds.
