Match drag strip torque converter stall using diameter and exact fluid capacity from ATI charts to keep power delivery sharp on the tree.

Stall matching starts with picking the right converter diameter for your engine's torque curve and track conditions. Smaller diameters raise stall speed for quicker launches while larger ones tighten it for better bottom-end hook-up.
ATI data shows direct links between diameter and fluid volume needed to maintain that stall target. A 10-inch converter holds 3 quarts; drop to 9-inch and capacity falls to 2.5 quarts. Always verify on sheet before final fill.
Proper fluid amount keeps the stator and impeller locked in the designed slip range. Under-filling raises stall unpredictably; over-filling adds heat and slows response off the line.
Fill every new converter before install. Previously run units retain some fluid, so top off to the listed spec after the first heat cycle and re-check under race-day red lights.
Cross-check your transmission pan volume against the same ATI chart. TH400 with stock pan takes 6 quarts plus the converter load; Powerglide needs only 4. Mismatch here and stall drifts.
