Drag strip launches live or die by stall speed. Pick the right converter diameter first so the engine hits its torque peak right when the transbrake drops.
Larger diameters like 12-13 inch units deliver higher stall for big-cube nitrous combos while 8-10 inch converters keep stall lower for high-RPM small blocks.
ATI charts show exact fluid needs once diameter is chosen: 13 inch takes 5 quarts, 12 inch 4 quarts, 11 inch 3.5 quarts, 10 inch 3 quarts, 9 inch 2.5 quarts.
Always pre-fill a fresh converter before install. Under-filling drops stall and overheats the unit on the first pass; over-filling creates ballooning and clutch slip.
Cross-check your trans type too—Powerglide stock pan holds 4 quarts, TH400 holds 6 quarts—so total system volume stays correct after the converter is seated.
